Executions Across The World And Our History With Executions
Introduction
This blog all started when I saw this actually quite bad video of an execution and I was generally interested in look at some executions now and in the past to see how far humanity and governments and ways of punishments have gone. Plus, an overall view on executions and my bottom line on them right at the bottom. The Hoax Lethal Execution Machine That Rips Off Someone's Head
Right, I don;t know why ANYBODY would do a hoax video about this! It's just absolutely inhumane. I am relieved it's a hoax but considering they actually did a demonstration video and I was just like, what if a child accidental saw that! Plus, I kinda new it was fake when they said "Ohio" is trying a new method of execution. I would get it if this was somewhere else like not the united states. But, considering they did a demonstration video and telling us how safe it was really annoyed me because it's just so ridiculous and so inappropriate as a death punishment. There's death punishment and then there's just OVER KILL! Come on!
Hanging
England has actually done hanging executions because I remember it being in a documentary and a film called 'Let Him Have It!' Some, countries still have the hanging as a form of punishments. In Iran, 369 people were hanged in 2013. But, it's not just Iran there's places like Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Japan, Malaysia and Nigeria. But, United States the last person to be hanged was in 1996 in Delaware. And, from my research studies even when pirates were trailed they got the hanging penalty and some countries would literally hang the pirates near the docks to warn off other pirates in landing on the island or countries. Personally thou, hanging isn't fair because someone is taking a life, they have the pull the lever. So, is it fair? Plus, it use to be a form of social events hanging at some point now it's in a box and the family members or the people he/she killed watch as the prisoner is hanged. It's quite a low form of punishment it's basically a rope, trap door and boom done. But, it's quite a low form of punishment because it's quite degrading your there, rope around your neck and I believe you get a quick pray and last words I THINK and then whilst people watch....seeing you hang? I don't understand that bit. Think about it, I understand a family member or a family member's now dead partner/son/daughter etc, is there watching but why police? Surely, yes they get paid for it but I don't think they enjoy watching it.
Firing Squad
This is one of the key executions made in Indonesia. It's basically how it sounds you get twelve executioners and they shoot the prisoner in the chest. But, if the prisoner is still not dead....(I know a long shot) The commander would issue the final bullet directly tot he head of the prisoner. Firing squads was carried out last year in places like China, North Koream, Saudi Arabi, Somalia, Taiwan and Yemen. But, United States used a firing squad in 2010 against a convicted murderer called Ronnie Lee Gardner. Personally, I hate this punishment not because I know anyone who has had it, it's just overall wrong. It's unjustified seeing twelve people lock, load and aim and fire at a prisoner they are worse like them taking a life. Yes, it's there jobs too but if they are still alive the prisoner the commander can shoot the prisoners head. THAT right there is wrong. So, a prisoner has twelve bullets in him/her and if the prisoner is still alive the commander kills them by a shot in the head. A. They are still in pain. A execution in my head should be a quick and painless not degrading, painful and gonna say it "Out there". Personally, executions should be private not between like 15 people.
BEHEADING!
Am glad this is only in on country because it's completely inhumane. Saudi Arabia, publicly draw out a sword and chop of the convicted person publicly to his death by a beheading! To me, this isn't an execution it's a public demonstration of slaughter and fear to the people. I can't even understand why people would watch this kind of execution. This was the most shocking to me, because I can't understand why someone would watch this, do this or even think doing this. Everything is wrong here, you have the point blank that the execution is public to everyone to see, the prisoner is humiliated and scared to death, the fact the weapon of the execution is a sword! Just shows how inhumane an execution can be. A sword to me shows someone character, a slaughter, not justice... But, more dangerous as a country. I would't be surprised that people witnessing these executions were in fear of what could happen to them.
Lethal Injections
The only places that uses this is China and Vietnam. It's basically a needle injecting to you but you will have a lethal dose it's not a simple needle injection. However, it is one of the primary uses of executions now in the United States. But, pharmaceutical companies have banned the sale of their drugs for lethal use. I don't really know much about this one. But, if they are taking the injection then going to sleep and having a peaceful execution that's fair enough. Am, gonna say some people might not like what I said here. Yes, some people want justice and the same level of punishment maybe the family got. But, if you think like that you want the same as what he or she did for the execution. This if it's what am thinking. Peaceful death, no problems straight and simple. However, if they are awake. I have seen overdoses and it can be painful, can be unbearable, you can even knock yourself out or have a heart attack all sorts. I like the research I found that pharmaceutical companies would provided extremely lethal medications because it's not what they do. But, they did provide like drug cocktails to kill the prisoners but they didn't really work that well. So, humane wise I would say this one is it so far. But, clearly from the image below these executions are incredibly unbearable for the prisoner so I would say 'no' to this execution no matter what you done, you are sentencing someone to go through something so you think it's justice. However, the person sentencing this or the person witnessing this for any reason to me shows your not better than he/she strapped in, taking the execution.
Electrocution
Again, United States is the only country in the world that uses electrocution as a form of punishment. I know this execution because of the 'Green Mile' and some research I discovered. You can actually see some of these executions go wrong which they have not only in the film. But, personally in the film and the research I found out. If you do it correctly, it should be quick execution. Even thou, the prisoner is getting pain throughout his or her body at least in some situations the people who the prisoner did wrong to can feel they have had justice today. Which, is probably why it's still being used. I have been to United States and I say a lot of people there want to see some form of justice being done to the injustice because it's there country. They are very proud people just as I am proud of being in England. But, electrocution am glad we don't have in the UK just because seeing the film makes me think it's truly a wrong way to punish someone it's quite dark the execution.
Burning
Burning at the Stake! No not steak house at the Stake! Was actually done in one or two ways. First, victim would be lead to the centre of a wall of sticks and straws and tied to the stake, after which the space between the criminal and the wall would be filled with wood - trapping the person then. It is believed that this is the manner which St Joan of Arc was brunt. The other method was to pile sticks and straw up to the level of the calves only. When performed by a authorised and skilled executioner, the person would burn in this sequence: (I didn't know this) Calves, thighs, and hands, torso, and forearms, breasts, upper chest, face and then finally....well ya know dead! But, in the later versions of burning at the stake, the criminal would be hanged first until dead and then burnt symbolically. This method of execution was used to burn witches in most parts of Europe, but it was not used in England for that purpose. Burning in England the purpose of that was something called 'Marian Persecutions' about the Roman Catholic religion. But, Burning? Personally, just plain wrong I know about it from many films and some TV crime shows uses it to demonstrate how they burned witches or suppose 'witches'. But, I hate it. The person getting burned will be in pain, slowly being burned alive or being poisoned from the fumes if it was a lot of people being burned in a pile. When, I think of fire in general you just think of something in the living room not a way of execution. It's slow and painful which is what they wanted but in today's age it's wrong.
Ling Chi
This one I knew nothing about and I was shocked at what they do. Ling Chi basically is an execution by slow cutting. It was practice in Chine until it was outlawed (really? I wonder why) in 1905. In the execution, the criminal is slowly cut in the arms, legs, and chest, until finally they are beheaded or stabbed int he heart. I know they wanted them to die but bit extreme? Many western accounts of the execution method is actually largely exaggerated saying it took days to perform the executing? Wrong there. One modern eyewitness report from the Journalist and Politician Henry Norman says this about the execution:
"The criminal is fastened to a rough cross, and the executioner, armed with a sharp knife, begins by grasping handfuls from the fleshy parts of the body, such as the thighs and the breasts, and slicing them off. After this he removes the joints and the excrescences of the body one by one- the nose and ears, fingers and toes. Then the limbs are cut off piecemeal at the wrists and the ankles, the elbows and knees, the shoulders and hips. Finally, the victim is stabber to the heart and his head cut off."
Now, think about this....the hoax video is worse then this I think! But, who on Earth would think this is a proper way of a form of punishment let alone an execution! It's just so barbaric! It's inhumane am glad no where in the whole world does this form of punishment and if they did, it should just stop. No matter what they did, there's no justice in this form of punishment.
Boiling
Hansel and Gretel? No, but this execution, the condemned is stripped naked and either placed in a vat of boiling liquid, or in a vat of cold liquid which was then heated to boiling. The liquid could be oil, acid, tar, water, or molten lead. During the reign of King Henry VIII it was a punishment especially reserved for poisoners to the crown and to the public. The next form that uses this type of execution is someone called Idi Amin which was accused of using this method of execution on his enemies. But, no country or government uses this kind of execution. And, thank God for that! Boiling alive as if you were stew! It's again barbaric and in-justified. Yeah, the poisoners who tried killing people got caught but would you boil them for it?Flaying
Execution by Flaying is when the skin of the criminal is removed from their body with the use of a very sharp knife. Attempts are made to keep the skin intact. This is a very ancient method of execution. The apostle Bartholomew was flayed and even crucified upside down. His skin and bones are kept in a Cathedral in Sicily. But, there's accounts of Assyrian flaying the skin from a captured enemy or rebellious ruler and nailing to the wall of his city, as warning to all who would defy their power. The Aztecs of Mexico flayed victims of ritual human sacrifice, generally after death.
While, this method of execution is not lawful in any country (THANK GOD!). But, in 2000, Government troops in Myanma (Burma) allegedly flayed all of the males of a Karenni village.
Sawing
In execution by sawing, the criminal would be hung upside-down and a large saw would be used to cute their body in half, starting with the groin (OUCH), all the way to the head. Because, the person was hanging upside-down, the brain received sufficient blood to keep them alive until the saw finally reached the main blood vessels in the abdomen. In the Asian version of this execution, the victim would stand upright and the sawing would begin at the top of the head (again OUCH). Some traditions state that the Prophet Isaiah was executed by the saw. It is believed that Saint Paul is making reference to this in his Epistle to the Hebrews 11:37:
"They were stoned, they were cut asunder, they were tempted, they were put to death by the sword, they wandered about in sheepskins, in goatskins, being in want, distressed, afflicted."
Surely, no one uses this method.....oh wait am wrong! This was used in Middle East, Europe, and the part of Asia. It was also used in the Roman Empire and was considering to be the favourite punishment dished out by Emperor Caligula.
Currently, this form of execution is being used in Afghanistan, Bahamas, Bangladesh, Belarus, Botswana, China, Cuba, Egypt, Guatemala, India, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Japan, North Korea, South Korea, Lebanon, Malaysia, Pakistan, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Somalia, Sri Lanka, Suriname, Syria, Taiwan, Tajikistan, Tonga, Untied Arab Emirates, United States, Vietnam and Yemen. All this countries still or have used this execution in the past 10 years.
HOW! Can anybody use this method! It's inhumane! Cruel and above all psychotic! I don't care what they did but sawing them is just wrong. They could of killed Santa Claus and I still wouldn't want this, nothing would even make me tempt this form of execution. I can't even think of a logical reason what they did would make them have this form of punishment! It literally sickens me to think countries still use the sawing method.
Here's Something To Think About
I found this on a website, and people say "UK is rubbish" or "Rather live somewhere else". But, consider we have no death penalties comparing what kind of executions there is in the world. Personally, the UK and all the other countries has something right there.
Overall
I would of mentioned a few more but some that are still in use as forms of executions are Decapitation and Gas Chamber. Am not gonna lie, I think UK is great right now because of the fact we don't have any gorey, bloody, inhumane, barbaric, insane, psychotic, public displays of any forms of executions! People get there justice. But, this makes me to make a point! When doing a hoax video, just think of the real executions and your not being funny. In fact, your mocking the forms of executions they were and still is. Which is wrong, we should be trying moving forward away from executions and actually being a true law enforcement communities where justice will be served. Plus, think about how in the hoax video personally made me physically sick. Yes, it's a hoax and suppose to be funny but it's not funny. It's a sham.
Bottom Line?
When we think of executions we think of all those innocent or non-innocent people that died, do we feel sorry for them or do we have relieve when we know they are being executed? Do we actually feel anything when we don't know them and yet see a 'video' of the execution that went public. The fact is, no one should be watching these execution videos because it's not pleasing or shocking it's wrong. No one should see a guy chop off someone's head unless it's Jason Voorhees or a psychotic maniac in a film. So, humanity should move forward away from the executions and come to grasps of a more humane and much more liveable world and that's the bottom line.
