What's The Bottom Line With This Goosebumps Film?

Goosebumps (2015)

Starring Jack Black (School of Rock and Kung Fu Panda), Odeya Rush (The Odd Life of Timothy Green and We Are What We Are) and Ella Wahlestedt (Earth To Echo and BFF Zombie)

First Impressions Hearing About This Film

Yeah, Jack Black to play R. L.Stine is different. I would of thought they do the film differently, Maybe, Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart or better Tobin Bell from the Saw films as Jigsaw. Because, when I first heard about it I thought they would play the author after he wrote the books and to be much older. Only because, we know what R.L.Stine looks like and Jack Black isn't him at all. I was thinking, when I heard they are doing a film with the opening credits be like the TV Show or more dramatic or more like today where we just see 'Goosebumps' and straight into a scream and already got the audiences attention.

What We Know So Far?

I COPIED THE NEXT WRITING FROM A LINK, CAN READ THE WHOLE ARTICLE HERE: http://www.slashfilm.com/goosebumps-movie-trailer-panel-promises-scares-laughs-comic-con-2014/

"The Sony Pictures panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2014 could more appropriately have been titled “Goosebumps.” After a super-short mention of the upcoming Chris Columbus film Pixels, author R.L. Stine popped on screen to tell fans aboutGoosebumps, which opens in Summer 2015. Director Rob Letterman (Monsters vs. Aliens) showed up for the panel, along with star Jack Black, a mere two days after they wrapped production. The pair debuted some new footage and news regarding the meta storyline of the film, in which the characters from all of Stine’s Goosebumpsbooks escape the original manuscripts..
Black began the panel by telling the story of when he first met R.L. Stine. “I’m gonna play you but I can’t play you like you are,” he told him. “I need him to be more sinister. Creepy and crawly and scary.” So, basically, he wasn’t going to look or sound like the real life author.
In the film, Letterman explained, the tone is tricky, as he has to balance scares and laughs, and delight kids and adults alike. Rather than describe it too much, he showed a trailer. We see a vision of beautiful small town America. A new family moves into a house; creepy neighbors, the Stine family, live next door. When the boy (Dylan Minnette) sees a Rear Window-esque event next door, he breaks into the house. There he discovers the truth. The ultra popular author keeps the monsters he created locked up in his original manuscripts. The house, shrouded in dark shadows, is appropriately creepy.
The trailer then cuts to Stine and the kids driving in the town and a massive preying mantis attacks them. (It will be CG, but was seen here in a pre-viz render as the film is so far from release.) “I  don’t remember writing a giant preying mantis,” Stine says. It spits on the car and THEN he remembers. Then we see them being chased by the Snowman of Pasadena. There’s a huge funhouse, a wolfman character, knife-throwing gnomes and then the ventriloquist dummy Slappy, who is the ringleader of all of the monsters. (That book was named as a favorite by both Black and Letterman.)
A slew of additional action scenes were shown, making it seem like almost every single monster from the books is in the film. At the end of the trailer, Stine brags about selling 400 million books and one of the kids goes, “Is that domestic?” “No, international, but that’s still an impressive number.”
Even in the very early form, Goosebumps looks pretty fun. A big, smart monster movie for kids. The way they took all of the Goosebumps books and rolled them into one is pretty smart.
That, of course, lead to some of the audience questions.
  • Some of the monsters are full CG, some are hybrids, some are practical makeup.
  • Black has read a lot of the Goosebumps books but not all of them.
  • The Haunted Mask is in it, but they were wary of revealing too many spoilers.
  • Welcome to Camp Nightmare will be referenced.
  • They don’t know exactly how many monsters from Stine’s books are in the movie.
  • Because everyone loves Slappy from Night of the Living Dummy, he’s the lead villain. They consider him Stine’s alter ego. "
So, what do we know? The film is being made by Sony Pictures that owns Spider Man so visually we should be expecting lots of effects from the monsters even mentions CGI. But, we don't know if that's all the monsters or just some of them. We know Jack Black is playing R. L.Stine but not! Haha that made me laugh! We are watching a film basically about him but it's not him. BUT, I read somewhere that R. L. Stine might make an appearance within the film which would be great for all old Goosebumps fans. But, we defo know that SLAPPY is the lead villain which I KNOW most old Goosebumps fans like because when you think of Goosebumps you should think of Slappy being at least in the top three. For me, Slappy then Haunted Mask which is also in the film! and maybe Monsterland (It's the TV show one with the monsters being basically a human and the humans being the monster). But, that's what we know so far from Comic Con.

Is It Going To Be As Good As The Old Goosebumps?

Hmmm, I can't answer that really. But, on experience of bringing back old material and turning it into a movie it can go either way. The writers have said there has to be that balance of laughter and horror. But, from what I remember Goosebumps was the "HAHAHA" funny but more the disturbing funny that you laugh at, then a second later. Wait, should I laugh at that! Then, the horror was lots of suspense. But, most Goosebumps has a twist at the end of each episode. So, expect a twist in the film I would of thought. Maybe, Slappy gets killed but is in Jack Black or the nieces body like possession. Then, that's another thing we have to consider if kids are seeing this film is the rating 12A then? It must be right? But, who knows....

So, what's the bottom line?

Bottom Line if your new or old to Goosebumps either way a must see next year if your into his TV Show and books.

Tips if watching the film in the future?

  1. My main tip and only tip, keep an open mind when watching this film. Remember not to judge anything until it's finished.

My Predictions

I can't really say until I know more, but I can see this massive twist at the end for another film. Maybe, Jack Black isn't R.L.Stine maybe it's just the guy with the same name (lame) OR my better idea is that Slappy wrote the books that's why he is a head villain and has all this power maybe? But, we'll see I like to see how the monsters come out and how he would have to get them back. It's a real Goosebumps film but I would defo watch it just to see has it changed ALOT or just a little because there has to be some changes considering it's a film and not the TV show.
