What's The Bottom Line With Instinct?

Instinct (1999)

Starring Anthony Hopkins (Silence of the Lambs and the Elephant Man), Cuba Gooding Jr. (Jerry Maguire and What Dreams May Come) and Donald Sutherland (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and The Italian Job)

First Impressions Before Seeing The Film?

It was on my top 10 recommend lists for Netflix. I was just curious about the film, I read the description it's basically about a man out of society and learned to live with wild animals. Sounds boring right? Well, I like to give everything a go! And, I gave this film a major go because it has three of my favourite actors in it. Anthony Hopkins whom I haven't seen in a really really bad film, his acting is excellent and I believe he likes his reputations as one of the great actors so he does read the script before deciding and doing some research too. Cuba Gooding Jr. I like from Jerry Maguire and What Dreams May Come but I also liked him in Red Tails and Snow Dogs. His acting can be very similar, he hasn't changed his attitude in most films but here it's quite a more serious role so I was excited to watch this film. Then, Donald Sutherland which many people now will know him from the Hunger Games as the President. I like his acting, it's quite interesting to watch and here he is playing a doctor so be nice to compare this character to Hunger Games.

After I Watched The Film?

This film is actually beautiful to watch, there is a lot of psychology issues that happen here. Because, when we think of someone being out of society for a long period of time we either adapt or go insane....It's true because some people can't cope without human interaction for so long it's a fact. So, here we have a really interesting film about a man that has murdered someone but can't communicate because he has been brought up whilst studying these animals to communicate with other animals. If I would have to narrow this story down, imagine Tarzan in his 80s but there's lots of reasoning and understanding of all parties in this film. Also, we see these animals behaviour and personalities from just one man so we understand his abilities more. Anthony Hopkins really makes this film interesting to watch and with the support of Cuba Gooding Jr. really makes this film an eye opener. I can't remember if this is in fact a true story, but it's interesting to watch and listen. Anthony Hopkins character has very similar intelligence to Hannabal Lecter in Silence of the Lambs. But, the difference is......Personally, is that THIS character in this film has more humanity and spirituality then Hannabal Lecter has. But, they both in some ways are animalistic but some humans have this ability when protecting there loved ones. So, consider that if your watching this film.

What's The Main Reason This Film Is So Interesting?

In the planiest form, it's showing us what we don't want to see. It's showing us humanity in the purest of forms and what we can and maybe one day will become if we do what Anthony Hopkins character does. But, we as a collective of understanding animals the most recent film about animals understanding is Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. I want to see this film because it's a What If film again because this could happen. Whilst, Instinct is a THIS IS HAPPENING film. This film has already happened, and is still happening today. It's an interesting film to watch if you like drama, psychology involve and human understanding principles.

So, What's The Bottom line?

My bottom line today would be, give it a go. It's something different if you like Anthony Hopkins and it's incredibly enjoyable to watch. And, in one scene I actually cried because it was that powerful Anthony Hopkins performance.

Tips If Watching The Film?

  1. Don't try to understand the why, watch and the questions you wanna know will be answered.
  2. I really watched how Anthony Hopkins played his character earlier and later on in the film, there's a huge contrast which you know it when you watch it.

My Rankings

IMDB users rated this a really lovely 6.5 I would happily give this a 9 or even a 10. The reason am not giving it a 10 is because of the ending. I felt like it was a bit mellow, like we heightened it up and then it ends with a mellow relaxed way. That's the only reason.
