Introduction

I picked this for Warmth Wednesdays because it is quite an interesting drama, it's based on a true story of actual events that happened. But, I think what Kevin Spacey and Barry Pepper bring to the table makes this a film you don't want to miss.

First Impressions Before Seeing The Film?

My first impression was that it was on Sky like one of the premier films, and it was summer at the time so I thought. Why not. I actually quite love Kevin Spacey's acting and what he is in as well. I mean, if you haven't seen him in American Beauty or The Usual Suspects. The name should ring a bell, he was Hopper in A Bug's Life! The comedy side he did Horrible Bosses. He is actually quite a comical actor and yet can be a serious actor which is one reason I try and watch most of his films. Then, you have Barry Pepper which am slowly coming to terms with his name. He is actually quite a background character in The Green Mile and he was in Saving Private Ryan. His acting is really good quality, I was actually looking forward to see how the two friendships within these two actors work out. I knew nothing about the true story I just watched the film.

After I Watched The Film?

Kevin Spacey's acting in this, is truly remarkable. I felt so many different emotions for his character but at the same time you see the justice as in to why Jack Abramoff did what he did. Think about this, this is the bottom line of the entire movie....If you had the chance to make money, from someone else and keep the money, and try and not get caught. You'll make sure that you buy what you're heart desires. Plus, when I looked at what Jack Abramoff looks like, ideally you have to pick Kevin Spacey to play that role. There's some business like manner about Kevin Spacey but he can draw out all of these different emotions. The relationship of Kevin Spacey and Barry Pepper's characters relationships however were odd to see. You can clearly see that Barry Pepper was the more understudy of Kevin Spacey's character. Which hits a flaw already really. You know exactly where the loyalties lie. But, I like how we see the wife of Kevin Spacey's character. Am not going to say what happened, but you see realistically what happens. I mean, it's a true story so you have to stick with the facts. But, when you watch this film you see all people getting effected better or worse which makes you think and feel for these people.

What Makes This Film So Interesting To Watch?

I think it comes down to that it is a true story, which makes it already interesting. This actually happened, it wasn't a writer that thought....hmmm Jack Abramoff wore an interesting hat, he was cool, he love money....No. We see in the movie Jack Abramoff as a person, and I think the real Jack Abramoff could see justice in this film for him seeing himself in the film. At the end of the credits, you do have the more facts that wouldn't really work in the film. But, when I look back I have to admit that Kevin Spacey and Barry Pepper made this film to that high class drama that we expect. I think I like this film with these two acting in this film, just because there acting makes films seem realistic. You couldn't have Ben Stiller playing Jack Abramoff or Dick Van Dyke or Tim Allen because the look of the film needs that element of realism. And, that's why I think personally Kevin Spacey mainly is what this film needed. That element of realism, not to comical, not to silly, more drama based, serious and can pull of who is Jack Abramoff. What you see in the film, is everything you expected in real life. Which for a film viewer is what you want. I love my sci-fi, fantasy, action films like Transformers, Harry Potter (sorry Hogwarts does exist but no real magic), The Hobbit! But, I like the films that have a simple storyline, great drama, and if it's a true story I'll watch it because it's actually events that happened. Like, 12 Years of a Slave, some people found it long....I enjoy this sort of drama.

So, What's The Bottom Line?

I think when you consider the true story, you can just search the name Jack Abramoff and see what the true story is. But, the bottom line reading a true story is good to see it unfold before you're eyes, but takes great actors to portray such un-foldness for more than an hour! And, that's the bottom line.

My Rankings

Considering this is a Kevin Spacey main actor film it got a 6.2, I was actually quite shocked to that because I feel this film at least! Deserves a minimum of 7. I feel personally this deserves a 8 out of 10 because I do understand some bits of the film wasn't needed but again it does. They could of expanded the film, they did make an interesting ending thou which I liked of how it ends. But, I think people under rate it because they didn't understand the concept of what this film is portraying to us. Which is, money makes the world go round, but you take money by a pinch of voice, that world can revolve around you or the world can crush you.
