Back To The Future (1985)
Starring Michael J. Fox (The Good Wife and Stuart Little) Christopher Lloyd (Who Framed Roger Rabbit? and The Pagemaster) Lea Thompson (Caroline in the City and The Beverly Hillbillies) Thomas F. Wilson (The Heat and Rio) and Crispin Glover (Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland and 9)
Introduction
I picked this iconic Sci-Fi film because it deserves a place in the Throwback Thursday line up. Considering this was done in 1985, there's no trilogy that compares to the Sci-Fi special effects, storyline and the cast mash up. Don't even bring Terminator films into that line. Back to the Future for me, is one of the best Sci-Fi trilogies ever made. So, let's get right to it and lets see what Back to the Future holds.
First Impressions Before Seeing The Film?
I just remember seeing Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd in a little sneak peek in an advert on a ITV channel. And, I really wanted to watch it! I think I had it on VHS as well, so I put it on and I didn't know actors back then. BUT, I did recognize Christopher Lloyd in another childhood film called 'The Pagemaster' but overall, I didn't know what to expect really. I was thinking at first actually, it be a simple film. But, considering it's about time travel there's always something complicated with it. I think at the same time I saw Doctor Who: The Movie with Paul McGann. So, at the time I was actually into Sci-Fi films so I think I watched Back to the Future straight after Doctor Who: The Movie.
After I Watched The Film?
You know what, this is still my favourite sci-fi film. Not because of the special effects but because of the cast. We have Michael J. Fox now I've seen him in a ton of films and I love his acting. Same, for Christopher Lloyd but I have to say these two as a duo....the funny one liners that the Doc does like "Great Scott!" I think if someone else was going to do these roles I just can't see it. The effects are stunning, the arting is brilliant. Let's just not forget the villain played by Thomas F. Wilson who is a great actor! He was recently in The Heat, and he hasn't really changed that much! But, honestly this film is truly one to watch for these reasons. The script was rejected 40 times before it was finally green-lit, so think about that. They really took there time making truly a remarkable film which even non-scifi fans like, I think it shows the humanity in it which we like, the comedy elements are spot on and the fact it's time travel. It's a What If Film that I love. But a random fact about not just this film, all the films. When Lorraine follows Marty back to Doc's house, she and Doc exchange an awkward greeting. This marks the only on-screen dialogue that Christopher Lloyd and Lea Thompson ever have, though they have appeared together in five movies and one TV movie. I think that's quite interesting when thinking about it. But, this film when it finished I was speechless and moaned I have to wait for the next one! Haha but it was well worth the wait of seeing the second one and the third one. Truly a remarkable sci-fi film for all ages.
Could There Be A Forth Film?
Now, doing my research Christopher Lloyd always wanted to do one more movie, in which Marty and Doc Brown time-travel back to Ancient Rome. But, I can't see the logic into why? I think the third film where it ended and how it ended was spot on. And, off course Doc has a time travelling train! Who wants a car? Let's have a train! But, I would've like to see maybe a spin off TV Show....Think about it? We have Doctor Who....Time Travelling that's it. Why not Back to the Future TV Show? We have the Train, maybe we see Doc travel to all these destinations with his wife and kids, and Marty and maybe some other friends he picks up along the way. But, I think that will be tooooo much like Doctor Who. Down side, is that Doc can actually die and not regenerate so the TV Show can only last about 8 seasons if that.
So, What's The Bottom Line?
If you haven't seen it yet....well you have time. There's three films from this Back to the Future franchise and I believe it's the best sci-fi film for any age any anyone. Bottom Line? It's 2014 and you could've watched Back to the Future by now and that's the bottom line.
My Rankings
IMDB users gave this a respectable 8.5 which I actually happy with but am thinking of this film and the other films overall I give it a 10 out of 10. If they did another I would mark it down to a 9. How it ended is the final curtain.
