presents

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003)

Introduction

This week for our Freaky Friday! We are going to be looking at the 2003 version of Texas Chainsaw Massacre, we will be doing the same old stuff. BUT, we will be doing a question just on the key character of Thomas Hewitt aka Leatherface. Will be doing a character profile of him, and some form of reflection of this crazy villain. So, do you think he deserves to be featured in Freaky Friday's addition? You'll have to read to find out.

First Impressions Before Seeing The Film?

I love the old version of Texas Chainsaw Massacre, so when I saw this randomly in a DVD shop I was actually quite excited. Texas Chainsaw Massacre in general I like, just because of the unique villain, he's very similar to the Friday the 13th and Halloween character. But, something about this villain is just appealing to me then the rest. But,I have notice that the cast in most of these movies are always C or D rated celebrities. And, I bet you're wondering why I didn't do the 2013 version....simply because I liked it, however the 2003 I thought was much better. I think, always go with the best version when doing a Freaky Friday addition. So, I didn't really know the actors, but looking forward to seeing the villain.

After I Watched The Film?

Leatherface is such a great villain, when I was watching the film again today I was just like. This guy is seriously messed up in the head. The family he has is also quite strange but we don't know why he specifically is different between the family.....Let me explain, Leatherface has the strength, the height and the overall power and intimidation. Yet, this is why I think this film is such a great film. He is the under dog. The family uses 'Tommy' to there advantage when they are in trouble. So, you could class Leatherface as a escape goat. But, he is caring....in a weird way. He loves his family and the fact that the film is based on a TRUE STORY. Which when I played this at university no one believed me. So, as proof I googled the man, and shown them the case file.....boom. But, it's not just a guy chasing you with a chainsaw.....WELL, it is but there's so much more. There's psychology with the family that Leatherface is in.

Why Did I Pick Thomas Hewitt (Leatherface) To Be In This Week's Freaky Friday?

My first choice has to be this guy Thomas Hewitt. He is just a strange character. We see in Halloween, that he cares for his sister and Jason from Friday the 13th is a Mommy's boy. But, LEATHERFACE....he cares about more than one person, he cares for his family as well. When, we consider Leatherface we do think of the rusty old chainsaw but he uses this to protect his family....True, it's quite a old 'new' technology of killing machine then an axe! But, I think with the masks he wears  because of how he was brought up. I think, he was deformed or he thinks he appears 'ugly'. I know it has nothing to do with a fire.... I think. I know he likes to skin the face of victims and puts them on. Maybe, it's a conscious thing! Like think about, for him to forget how many people he killed and has his face skinned he wears them to forget. But, the power of Thomas Hewitt channels through the skin layers. But, there's another reason he wears them.....I remember a classic scene where his family was like "That really suits you Tommy! You look so fucking handsome". So, maybe he also does it to feel accepted not just with the family but on the outside world to. But, he will never be able to wonder the open world....Simply because of how he is and how he thinks. Yes, he is good at hiding! But, at the end of the day he doesn't understand correct morals.

So, What's The Bottom Line?

Leatherface is a must see character for a horror film. He is truly a remarkable character to watch and understand. Please please if you haven't see the Texas Chainsaw Massacre films watch from the very old ones to the new ones and you'll see the epic difference that the film makers have done to Thomas Hewitt.

My Rankings

Okay...IMDB users overall gave this a 6.2 so basically a 6. But, I have to be honest..... I gave this a 10 out of 10 am not saying it's a Shawshank Redemption film! But, I love this film to pieces am a horror gore lusting fanatic! I love the rusty old chainsaw and the way he skins them alive and tortures them....Yes, I know am sick minded like that! But, horror films are there to entertain and open our minds to unusual or strange circumstances and that's the bottom line.
