What's The Bottom Line Special Throwback Thursday Presents The Mummy

Presents

The Mummy (1999)

Starring Brendan Fraser (Monkeybone and Bedazzled) Rachel Weisz (The Fountain and Constantine) and John Hannah (Four Weddings and a Funeral and Sliding Doors)

First Impressions Before Seeing The Film?

Well, I have to say that my first impression was that it was just going to be a comedy. Consider the main cast is Brendan Fraser and John Hannah are mostly known for great comedies. But, then having Rachel Weisz in the mix could show a great twist of drama in the film. Am, being as honest as possible because it was a while ago since I had a first impression. But, I did like seeing the trailer seeing how the Mummy looks, we were brining in great Special Effects which is probably what really made this film, unique. With, the unique CGI performances and the fact we see quite really well rehearsed fighting scenes to just from the trailer.

After I Watched The Film?

At the time, it was one of the best action packed films out. This was where The Matrix was coming out, so it had a great level. It's always on ITV during the year because it's such a great fil. Brendan Fraser plays a really great character. I have seen him in Monkeybone which is basically a full out comedy from him and I saw him in Bedazzled still funny. So, to see him take a Indiana approach was great to see. John Hannah also plays a funny character in the film and the hot Rachel Weisz to portray that women actually have intelligence. Not being funny, but the 1999 era of films, this film really portrays that women have a great high of intelligence which is one of the reasons I love this film. It's not stereotype, it's plain and simple with comedy and full of sword fights, gun shooting and black magic. It's just brill.

Should They Keep Making 'The Mummy' Films?

Honestly, the last two and the third series film shouldn't of been made. It seems like at one point it just went completely down hill! I would of preferred seeing something else. The Scorpion King was okay, which was the sequel. The third one, I wasn't too keen on it's the tomb one with the Emperor. I mean, let's see something really eye catching and a completely new character. We see mummies right? Well, maybe just a twist seeing Brenda Fraser's character has to team up with the Mummy to fight a greater evil then himself? Now, I would pay to see this to see what could happen. Who would they vs. From the top of my head, maybe Death? Because, Death in the religion is actually physical and not metaphorical. So, should they make more? No, since the third and so on are so bad from the original idea it just can't recover from it.

So, What's The Bottom Line?

I like this film a lot, and I think anyone and everyone has seen this film. So, that in mind the bottom line is simple. This is such a great action packed, comical and yet quite brilliantly shown special effects. The series gets slightly down hill, but I have to say the first and second ones are truly worth seeing. I would highly recommend The Mummy to anyone who loves a good action packed film with small facts and lots of comical moments.

My Rankings

This film has got a high rating of 7.0 form all of the IMDB users in the world. But, I think it deserves just a little more maybe an 8 or an 9. Because, think about it this was in 1999 we were just getting in the footstep of how far movies can go, and special effects. So, that in mind I give it a 9. It's one of my favourite mummy films and it will be. Simply because, it has comical moments and it has lots of action packed scenes with actual historical facts with Egyptian religions and rituals.

  1. There was a Tv show called The Mummy: The Animated Series that I watch years ago which I thought was must better but that might be as I was growing up with Lara Croft and Indana Jones. The Mummy: The Animated Series I would think made more sence to the 3rd film as in the show it was about the son and jewelly. The actor that is the main guy was in other films I am to believe plus I was to young to watch this or to even remember it.
