What's The Bottom Line special Freaky Friday presents Leprechaun

presents

Leprechaun

Who Is Leprechaun?

The actor playing the Leprechaun in these films is an actor called Warwick Davis, whom is one of my favourite fantasy characters. He has been in Harry Potter, Star Wars and the iconic Willow film where he played the key role. But, who or more importantly what is a Leprechaun? Well, we know they are suppose to have this bag of gold, some form of magic, the luck of the rainbow and all that, that comes with it right? But, these films don't take the happy side but more the cheesy and hilarious side of a Leprechuan and his wrong doings. This Leprechaun will kill people from the victims pleasures to get what he wants back. Now, in some of the films they are weird.....and I mean really weird. We see him go through the streets, through casinos, in space and even in tha hood. See trying to be a bit gangster now. But, this character has made us mainly laugh because am going to be honest I can't take this character serious at all.

First Impressions of Leprechaun in the Leprechaun films?

I think the key idea to remember is that Leprechauns are a myth. And, this character when I saw him in the movies actually knows this as a fact. No one believes in Leprechauns. But, this one, makes sure you won't forget they exist. He has a really sick twisted sense of humour which I absolutely love. But, my opinion at the start was that the character was a funny, disturbing and yet you can go out and have a drink with him. He's like that creepy mate you'll hang out with because he or she is a balls of laughs. But my first impression of the Leprechaun in his first film was interesting because I am use to see Leprechaun's these charming, handsome, charismatic and very cheerful characters....and then THIS guy shows up to ruin my very first idea of what a Leprechaun is.

My Impressions Now?

You have what I have to be honest, that now I see him, Warwick Davis and all the films they have done. It's actually quite a clever idea to revamp a myth and turn it into something recognizable but then change the concept of the original myth. I have to say Warwick Davis's personality is more out in the opinion I think. He generally has a great sense of humour and you see that in this film. I do have to admit thou now that I've seen the Leprechaun films as the films went on they became more and more irrelevant and less and less the original idea of what Leprechaun came from. But, I have to say it got more ridiculous, more absurd and just more low down dumb. I mean, come on, from a great idea in movies 1 and 2. THEN, 3 and 4 we see this Leprechaun in a casino and then in space.....IN SPACE! I can't deny there creativeness in these films because I wouldn't of thought of a Leprechaun in space. The horror franchise did it with Jason, so why not Leprechaun?  But, I have to say Warwick Davis's take on the concept of Leprechaun is definitely great for the adult and horror fans.

Can Leprechaun come back in another film?

I know WWE are actually doing a Leprechaun film from the idea of this film, I think it's called 'Leprechaun Origins' and the star in that is Hornswoggle. But, overall I do have to say that if they do another film they would have to keep that comedy element simply because that's how they have been running it. Maybe, Leprechaun ends up in a circus for a freak show and the ringmaster has his gold....Will he just stand there and do nothing? Nahh, he will definitely do anything and everything in his power to make sure the circus pays for what they did to him. Or, maybe we can see Leprechaun working in today's society maybe as a teacher, in the supermarket. We have seen him kill gangsters, space warriors all sorts. But, maybe we have to see him in today's society but nothing to extreme.

What Makes This Leprechaun Version Different To Others?

I don't think it's just Warwick Davis's take on his idea of Leprechaun. I think it's the fact that these films are for more adults then children. Plus, I think it's the outfit as well. I know it sounds silly but the look of the Leprechaun is different to compare to the other ones. The costume above next to Warwick Davis,is much more dark, ancient, antique and off course it looks like the time period Leprechauns would be coming from. It's hard to belief that Leprechauns at first glances are always clean, especially there outfits if they live in the woods. But, also I would say the script really helps as well portraying this nasty, disturbed and warped Leprechaun.

So, What's The Bottom Line?

I think if you want to see you're merry hoping dancing Leprechaun....put on The Last Leprechaun. BUT, if you want a Leprechaun with a great sense of humour, twisted, warped and I think the Leprechaun really has a great impression of being relaxed even under great situations and events.

Tips If Watching The Film?

I would have to say that when you watch this film, make sure you keep the idea of what originally is a Leprechaun and see how the Leprechaun is portrayed in these films. That's my only tip.

My Rankings of This Character

I would give this a 7 out of 10, simply because there is some minor flaws with the character. The concept of the idea behind the character they made is greatly went down hill. And, that's my final rank on this character. He makes up the points in comedy, drama and sick demented magic.
