First Impressions Before Seeing The Film?

I didn't know what to expect, it was one of the top 10 first horror films I watched. Even, when I was young I did research and my family was filling me in with some major horror films. I got the whole box set for Christmas and I don't think I left my room for two days! I didn't know who Freddy Krueger was, I didn't have a computer at the time so I couldn't google him you know?!! Was wondering why this film was popular? Who's Freddy? I was all around the villain at the time, who he is? why does he kill? But, that's all my first impressions because at a young age I would just watch a film, study a film and then reflect and add those elements I like to what I like being a performer. So, let's go to the thoughts after the film.

After I Watched The Film?

As you find out in the facts, Freddy wasn't really in the film that much, considering this is the first film we see Freddy Krueger. I love the actress that plays the female hero because she shows intelligence, she isn't a dumb female character that we see in tons and tons of horror films. But, Heather Langenkamp I didn't know she was in Star Trek Into Darkness, she can act! She's one of those horror actresses that isn't too dramatic, isn't too childish when screaming. When she screams and is in fear.....you believe it. You want to save her but you can't. But, I think what shocked me the most was the fact that  Johnny Depp is in this film. At the time, I saw Johnny Depp in Edward Scissorhands and Pirates of the Caribbean. I think what I liked about the film was the villain which I will come separately to another paragraph because it's such a unique character. But, the amount of blood spill in the film, the horror and yet comedy element..... I mean the film did make me watch it, I didn't physically felt fear and scared for the film. But, I will admit that the special effects, the horror element but above all the seduction that Freddy had as a character was there to draw his victims.

What Makes Freddy Krueger Such An Iconic Slasher Villain?

You know what....Freddy Krueger.....he's one of thosse villains where you first look at him, you have to laugh. You don't think he can hurt you, but he's this ultimate killing machine, and has fun killing his victims. The fact that he gets you when you sleep! That's the ultimate screw over because everyone sleeps, everybody has to sleep at some point. This has been into a remake, has been into short films, short episodes and has some special appearances with the Ghostbusters.....don't believe me? Check it out, just go into YouTube and put Freddy Krueger and Ghostbusters it's there. But, I think because of his choice of weapon is so unique, his comedy element is fresh and cheesy and the make up is just detailed enough it's strange and unusual.

Does The 2010 Remake Give The 1984 Justice?

As you see in the facts below, there is something really incredibly about the remake which is in the facts. But, besides that unique fact I hate this film. I can't stand it. Yes, they went with a more horror and sense film then what we address as A Nightmare on Elm Street. I see A Nightmare on Elm Street as a more, comical, fun loving horror film....it's for all ages that love horrors and comedies I feel because it's not suppose to scare you silly, it can make you laugh and cry. The remake purely just went into the horror element which was nice, but since A Nightmare on Elm Street has addressed everyone as a funny villain that takes joy in killing..... I didn't see that in the remake. It wasn't my Freddy Krueger that I love. I feel since we are near to 2015 there isn't a new villain.....the latest villain that's remotely different is Saw but that's getting old now. We need a new Freddy Krueger and a new villain that can do numerous films that we will love.

Facts About This Film

  1. The first time Robert Englund tried on the infamous Freddy glove, he cut himself.
  2. This was actually Johnny Depp's first ever film!
  3. This film was only shot in 30 days!
  4. Johnny Depp accompanied his friend Jackie Earle Haley to auditions for this film. Instead of Haley being chosen for a role, it was Depp who was spotted by director Wes Craven, who asked him if he would like to read for a part. Depp got a part in the film, Haley didn't. However, an awesome face Haley would go on to play Freddy Krueger in the remake 26 years later in A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010).
  5. You notice how much blood was used in this film?!?! Well, it was only over 500 gallons! of fake blood were used during the making of the film.
  6. Ever wondered how long it would take Robert Englund to become Freddy Krueger? It would take about 3 hours to get Robert Englund into his Freddy make-up.
  7. If you want to know about the glove Wes Craven's part, as he wanted to give the character a unique weapon, but also something that could be made cheaply and wouldn't be difficult to use or transport. At the time, he was studying primal fears embedded in the subconscious of people of all cultures and discovered that one of those fears is attack by animal claws. Around the same time, he saw his cat unsheathe its claws, and the two concepts merged, although in the original script the blades were fishing knives, not stake knives as in the finished film.
  8. This is something, I've personally wondered how long is Freddy in this film......Freddy Krueger has under 7 minutes of screen time. Considering this is his first appearance as this iconic villain that's short but gives you the perfect image of who is Freddy Krueger.
  9. Heather Langenkamp beat over 200 actresses for the role of Nancy Thompson, some of the other actresses who auditioned for the role of Nancy were Jennifer Grey, Demi Moore, Courteney Cox and Tracey Gold.
  10. The film cost roughly $1.8 million to produce, a figure it made back in its opening weekend.

My Rankings

It made it's money back in one weekend, it's truly one of the best horror films of all time. It's only rated a 7.5 in the IMDB page but I have to say it deserves a 10 out of 10. And, here's why; it's fresh, back then it's completely different. Think of today's horror films, Ouija is new, Annabelle but there isn't anything that comes close to a villain like Freddy Krueger, Freddy himself is worth watching. He is unique, and as a horror fan he is one of the best villains in the horror industry so that's why am giving this film a 10 out of 10.

So, What's The Bottom Line?

The bottom line is, if you love your comedies, if you love your horrors or even if you're new to the whole horror environment this is a fantastic film to start with because it's easy to get into, the storyline itself is interesting, special effects beautiful, and come on we know it's made it's money so it must be good! Bottom Line? 1, 2 ... Just give this a try if you haven't because it's a film to watch in you're life time. Before, Freddy gets you in you're sleep.
