What's The Bottom Line with I. Frankenstein ?

I, Frankenstein (2014)

Starring Aaron Eckhart (The Dark Knight (2008) and Olympus Has Fallen (2013)), Bill Nighy (Love Actually (2003) and Hot Fuzz (2007)) and Miranda Otto (War of the Worlds (2005) and What Lies Beneath (2000))

First Impressions Before Seeing The Film?

I would of thought, that it would be boring. We all know the story of Frankenstein, I didn't do any research into the film and what it was about, and what kind of characters we would encounter. I generally thought, this would be a modern take of Frankenstein being born in today's society. Only because, it looked modern, the guy playing Frankenstein is younger than we expect, and I didn't see the trailer at all. So, I was assuming from past Frankenstein films. That's my general first impression so let's get to what I thought after.....

After I Watched The Film?

This is the best modern Frankenstein film I have ever seen in existence!!! First of, we have Bill Nighy playing the devlish villain, already am sold because I never see him fully take on that evil role how I would like it. Secondly, Aaron Eckhart who played Two-Face in Dark Knight which we all know what brilliant takes the stage to play Frankenstein or how the film says Adam. Which is kinda cool, because of the decent of God's first son because he was made from someone who thought he was bad. But, I was more happy to see the fact that they didn't do what Van Helsing did and had Van Helsing, Dracula, Werewolves, Mr. Hyde we had all these different characters. Whilst, I. Frankenstein just focuses on Frankenstein, Demons and Gargoyles. Nice and simple fantasy creatures in a fantastic action packed and drama film. I like the transformations as well from demon to human form, and gargoyle to human form it was slick and nicely done. Special effects wise you can tell it's in 2014 because of all the visual and camera angles that they did. Plus, we get to know some of the history of the Gargoyles which was nice too.

Could There Be A Sequel And Who Would Be A Great Villain?

I really enjoyed Bill Nighy's portrait as a prince of the demons basically. However, I would love to see a sequel....But, what could we see?!?! Well, we know about the Gargoyles and the fact that God exist and is real here. We know about the demons, and I, Frankenstein is waiting for the next lot of details. So, it's open to a sequel of how the film ended. I like the fact that the enemies isn't your typical villain like Dracula. That's one reason I love this film, they went with something completely different that hasn't been done in a long time. So, that in mind the villain for the sequel has to be someone not predictable....Therefore, since the humans don't know about the war......Maybe, The Omen?!? The Devil Hounds?!?! Evil Sorcerer? Just not going to Dracula, or Vampires because it's been done. We don't fully know what evil there is in this universe. I know this is based on a comic book, but I think it would be interesting to see I, Frankenstein fall in love because that's the promise the father and Doctor who created Frankenstein so be nice to see Frankenstein be involved in romance whilst battling foes. But, I stay with the more The Omen enemy and hell hounds because that would be an interesting mix in the film because there was some darken themed of how the film was captured.

Facts About This Film

  1. This film acknowledges Frankenstein's Monster as "Adam" making it one of the very few screen adaptations to call him this name.
  2. In the graveyard, after Adam has been saved from the demons by the gargoyles, but is unconscious, the female gargoyle exclaims 'it's alive, it's alive', just as Frankenstein says in the original 1931 movie.
  3. The prayer the gargoyle queen offers up at the altar is part of a well-known Catholic prayer to St. Michael the archangel, the patron of the gargoyles.
  4. After Adam wipes off the blood from his forehead that Naberius put there, it comes back, and then changes position after another cut away.
  5. The order of the Gargoyles doesn't have Gargoyles amid its ranks. A Gargoyle is a decorative ornament used to spout water during downfall. A similar decorative ornament lacking this function is called a grotesque

My Rankings

It's sad to say that this film only got a 5.2 rating, and I can see why because people weren't open minded with Frankenstein. But, if you watch the film you'll understand why he isn't older, and the fact the director Stuart Beattle wanted to portrait the monster, the creator Frankenstein in a completely different way. Considering, the newest film before I, Frankenstein was Hotel Transylvania and Van Helsing keeping with that monstrous and ridiculously huge portrait of Frankenstein. So, that's why am giving this a 8 out of 10 rating because they thought Frankenstein was made from human part, therefore will look human size and it wasn't ridiculous it made sense.

So, What's The Bottom Line?

This film reminded me to Van Helsing, but I prefer this film to Van Helsing. if you enjoyed Van Helsing or Hellboy you would incredibly enjoy this film. Bottom Line? If you love you're fantasy, action and drama films this would be right up you're street and even if you're open minded in looking at the most iconic characters in a different light, and that's the bottom line.

What's The Bottom Line special Throwback Thursday presents The Blues Brothers

presents

The Blues Brothers (1980)

Starring John Belushi (Saturday Night Live (1975) and Animal House (1978)), Dan Aykroyd (Ghostbusters (1984) and Trading Places (1983)), and Cab Calloway (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008) and The Mask (1994))

First Impressions Before Seeing The Film?

I didn't really know what to expect, I think I watched this around 10 year ago, it was at the time I was at high school. And, I remember it being a musical and I watched it with my Grandma, I knew nothing about this film. I was just mainly curious what the film was about, I didn't care who was in it. But, when I looked at the cover I recognized Dan Aykroyd because I saw him in Dragnet and Ghostbusters at a similar time. Considering it's called "Blues Brothers" I had some indication that the musical theme would be blues or jazz. The attire of the front is glasses and suit I was thinking more blues. But, I was more surprised that who was in the film. So, let's go to the after the film impressions shall we!

After I Watched The Film?

So, as you can see these two guys are on a mission from God! And, that's one of the most comical sayings in the whole film. It's something you think, there crazy, but this is an utterly comical and ridiculous film! These guys get so much trouble you can't keep up who wants them! From the police to the army, to the cowboys to the Nazi's it's just completely bizzare. But, the stars in this film is incredible! We have Ray Charles whom sung Hit The Road Jack and I Got A Woman but here he sings Shake A Tail Feather. Then, we have Aretha Franklin who's sung I Say a Little Prayer to Think, and that's ironically in this film, her song Think. But, the stars of the film varies from the singers to the actors to the musicians. Actors wise we have John Candy from Cool Runnings and Uncle Buck, Frank Oz from Star Wars films and The Muppets, Charles Napier from Rambo: First Blood Part II and Silence of the Lambs and finally Henry Gibson from Wedding Crashers and The 'Burbs. But, what is Blues Brothers? In a nutshell, they have to raise money for a church and doing this epic concert for the public. The music is sensationally, the costumes and characters fit the time period. But, more importantly the drama and more importantly the comedy is remarkable and unexpected.  We have songs like Jailhouse Rock, Minnie The Moocher, Rawhide and Everybody Needs Somebody To Love. And, in all seriousness you don't think you're watching a musical because it has lots of drama, action and comedy you simply forget it I personally felt.

Would A Remake Be Better Than The Original?

Personally, it won't work in today's society. It's been done and rested now. However, let's think theory wise thou. They did do a sequel but had John Goodman instead of John Belushi. But, I think if they did do a remake they could get Dan Aykroyd and John Goodman....However, to make it fit with the times.... I would say they meet stars and make a concert for a retirement place. Because, there getting on now! And, amybe they didn't plan there retirement wisely. So, they ask old and new singers to come together to sort them with one final concert. But, off course along the way they get into some trouble. It could be a clash of Rat Race madness with the original Blues Brothers. Would like to see some of the old cast like Carrie Fisher because we never really seen much of her.....Just her trying to kill! The enemies? Well, it could be the huge music companies that want all the money from the concert, a band rival from the past that they dealt with. Could see them singing more modern and blues a more fusion style. So, maybe instead of a concert maybe a competition? Could be really remarkable I think. But, there's my theory if they ever do a remake or another sequel to the film.

Facts About This Film

  1. During filming one of the night scenes, John Belushi disappeared and could not be located. Dan Aykroyd looked around and saw a single house with its lights on. He went to the house and was prepared to identify himself, the movie and that they were looking for John Belushi. But before he could, the homeowner looked at him, smiled and said, "You're here for John Belushi, aren't you?" The homeowner then told them Belushi had entered their house, asked if he could have a glass of milk and a sandwich and then crashed on their couch. Situations like this prompted Aykroyd to affectionately dub Belushi "America's Guest".
  2. Carrie Fisher became engaged to co-star Dan Aykroyd during this shoot shortly after he saved her from choking by applying the Heimlich maneuver.
  3. For the 30th anniversary of the movie, The Vatican newspaper 'L'Osservatore Romano' called the film "a Catholic classic", recommending it as good viewing for Catholics.
  4. Big screen debut of Ray Charles.
  5. Paul Reubens (from Pee-Wee's Big Adventure and Matilda) plays the waiter serving Jake and Elwood when they go to find Mr. Fabulous.
  6. When Jake Blues is being processed for release from prison, the guards tell the clerk that Blues is from the "Maximum Wing, Block Nine", a reference to a song recorded by the Blues Brothers called "Riot in Cell Block #9".
  7. Frank Oz has a bit part as the corrections officer who returns Jake's belongings in the opening scene.
  8. John Belushi was nicknamed 'The Black Hole' onset, as he went through hundreds of pairs of sunglasses during production. He would do a scene and then lose the pair before filming the next one.
  9. Whilst in the phone booth Elwood asks Jake "Who ya gonna call?" Dan Aykroyd would later write and star in Ghostbusters (1984).
  10. In the new DVD version of the film, there are several added scenes. Elwood appears in one (sans sunglasses!) to tell his boss that he needs to quit because he wishes to become a priest.

My Rankings

It still has a high rating on IMDB at a solid 8! And, I just think it's a marvellous film, fantastic music, actors are funny and so funny when they try to be serious. I would give this a 10 out of 10 because it's so brilliant. It's nicely written, the madness starts low and finishes on a high, it's just one of those films that has bits of everything in that you cannot enjoy this film.

So, What's The Bottom Line?

Bottom line? Everybody Needs Somebody To Love and if you haven't seen the Blues Brothers yet, I know you will enjoy every moment of there humour, actions and situations they get in. And, that's the bottom line right there.

What's The Bottom Line with artist Andrew Cota?

Andrew Cota

Introduction

That's The Bottom Line will be looking at Andrew Cota, a inspiring artist, that likes the fact that he doesn't do his art for money, but for the passion he has for his artwork. This blog is very special, because we have an exclusive question and answers, and also we have some exclusive images of his own artwork and what That's The Bottom Line thinks of Andrew Cota's artwork.

Question and Answer Session!

Question 1) Good evening, Andrew Cota, thank you for taking this time to do this question and answer session, tell me do you define yourself as an artist?

Answer 1) I do not define myself as an artist. I'm just a guy who picks up, and puts down hobbies. I don't believe I've created anything to earn the title as an artist.

Question 2) What do you define as art? What piece of art or work do you like looking at? Whether it be film or video game?

Answer 2) Something I think that is perfect. When I was a boy in the second grade a artist came to the classroom, and asked me to scribble on the chalk board. I went nuts on this chalkboard, and he created three dolphins just by connecting the lines in my scribbling. I've also loved the sport of bodybuilding. Men taking years, and years to perfect their body to be perfect. To look like a god out of Greek mythology. I would have to say movies would be what I would love to look at. An artist created the background you see. The puppet running around. It's a 4 foot tall hunter killer tank somebody built for Terminator 2. There is so much artistic talent, and history in movies that people don't realise.

Question 3) How long have you been doing your artwork? And, what made you begin drawing?

Answer 3) I've started drawing since I was in Kindergarten (5 years old). I remember my dad going to my class with me, and he painted the bowl of fruit on the table, and it looked great. I wanted to be just like my dad. I wanted to draw, I wanted to be smart, and I wanted to be strong. So I always worked out, and drew. So to answer your question off, and on for 20 years.

Question 4) What started you, drawing, creating these pieces of art work?

Answer 4) In middle school I had this teacher Mr. Robinson. He was an art teacher, and we collided from day one. He always made the class draw this lady in a poster. He never let us draw anything other than this lady. So me not knowing how to draw a portrait. I just stopped. I took a failing grade, and he once came to me, and said "You will never be able to draw." So I started drawing in every class not paying attention to the real lesson. At the end of the next school year I've had a binder full of drawing. Super heroes, kids in class, birds outside, everything. I gave this to him at the end of the school year, and walked away. I never talked to him, or have seen him again. I've lost touched with all art, but I still return to it once in a great while.

Question 5) Where do you see you're artwork in 5 years?

Answer 5) Where do I see my artwork in 5 years? Probably in a burn basket. I don't see the perfection in anything. I always see negatives, and problems. That's why I do not sell work.

Question 6) Do you have any advice for any inspiring artist out there?

Answer 6)  My advice? Do not listen to negative talk. Especially from friends, or parents. The closest people to you could be the ones who stop you from being great. Also just keep practicing. It might look like a scribble, and a mess but one day you may be like that artist that came to my class that took a mess, and made a masterpiece who didn't care it was erased.

Question 7) Is there any art work that you want to challenge yourself doing?

Answer 7)  I would really like to get back into Graffiti, and take up that challenge. As a young teenager, I did Graffiti and was terrible. I loved the art work, the lettering, and the colors. It's such a beautiful thing. I think that would be my perfect challenge.

Question 8) I notice you did a bomb shell out of an old sprayed paint can...Do you want to explore more 3D art work then 2D?

Answer 8) The only 3D art I would like to do is something you can pick up, and touch in 3D as well. I've seen some great 3D drawings, but that's not for me. I want people to see it, pick it up, explore it from all angles, and even be on camera in a film, or a photograph.

Question 9) What kind of inspiration do you get, when you have the need to do some form of art work?

Answer 9)  My inspiration always comes from movies. I want to create something that can be enjoyed like a movie monster or a alien. I'll see a trailer or I'm watching an old movie I love. I've drawn the Predator easily five times, just because I watched it, and want to make him a little different this time around.

Question 10) We had a chat before, that you don't have any art certificates or degrees, does that intimidate you when posting your artwork or does that give you more passion to carry on with what you're passionately good at?

Answer 10)  I don't feel intimidated at all. I know there are people with art degrees that are worse than me, and better. I know people who will never step foot in a school, and can out do me in all aspects of art. I feel as if every one can bring something to the table, and if everybody checked their egos. People would get a masterpiece if everybody worked together.

Question 11) You gave advice to the inspiring artists, but what would you say to a non-artist if you had the chance. Sending them one life message that you have learn't from experiences?

Answer 11)  A life message? Maybe just be happy. If somebody hates you, or beats you. You always have a grin. They hate that. Had a bad day at work? Oh well, life happens. A magic fairy wont come down to make it any better. Just do your best, and be happy. Don't let anything beat you down, especially yourself.

Question 12) Finally, do you have other passions then art?

Answer 12)  I do have other passions. I am thrilled in WWII History, and Vietnam War History as my Grandfather fought in WWII, and my dad fought in Vietnam. So I love to read on the history, and just become more educated in the conflicts. My other passion is movies. I lost count at 2,00 some odd VHS tapes, and that wasn't all of them. Then I have laserdiscs, DVD, and Blurays. So I'm bit a film nut. I wanted to try my hand at acting, but in my town it just isn't going to happen. I have done a couple of commercials, but nothing to brag about. Maybe one day just make my own short films with friends, and make my own props for the films.

Artwork

Introduction

This section we will be looking at all of Andrew Cota's artwork and seeing from an outside point of view what we see, we know from the question and answer's that he does these art pieces, because it's purely for his passion to draw. It's not for anyone, but himself. And, for him to have this feature on That's The Bottom Line shows us all that you don't need fancy degrees or certificates to draw. If you give the patience, that key creative eye you can become whoever you want to be.

Predator

Before I say anything, I love the fact Andrew Cota understands that he doesn't have to use colour in a drawing. It's something that either looks fantastic in a drawing or lacks or deflates the image itself. But, I love the black and white effect, I am a huge Predator and AVP fan. And, seeing Predator like this is spot on. The helmet, the hair, the weaponry is so detailed and simple it's perfect for any Predator fan. I like the fact we have that shading of one side mainly black and the other light, as the Predator would be. We only see half the Predator when the creature is stalking his/her prey. But, I like this picture the most because the level of detail in shading to get that right element and balance can be tricky, and it looks quite professional as well.

The Joker from DC Heroes Batman

Now, if you don't recognize this image you're either really young or you lived under a rock in the 80s. This is the original Joker before the animated series, and it's from Batman, where Adam West played Batman. And, even know it's a bit before my time television programmes played the old school Batman. So, that being said I back up this drawing because it's spot on. Again, no colour and I think that's how it should stay. We recognize the Joker more from the Arkham Asylum games, The Dark Knight, the comics and the Batman film directed by Tim Burton. I recognize this Joker from the TV series and one of the facts I like about the Joker not being coloured because it's too simple. Keeping it black and white you capture the character and the personality of a crazy psychopath. The eyes, spot on. And, for me as a artist eyes for me is the hardest to draw and Andrew Cota did this spot on. As well, the hair is quirky and again the level of shading is spot on, not ruining the image and not lacking the picture, it heightens the picture to give the presence of the Joker.

Terminator

Considering the next film is coming out next year, I was looking into the Terminator again and I got a picture of what they look like. Andrew Cota deserves a pat on the back to capture every little detail of the Terminator. The eyes again are spot on, the level of detail of making it look robotic, but at the same time cyborg is quite intense. Plus, the teeth are fantastic, it's not to wonky, not to smudged. The drawing isn't as shaded which is fantastic for me to see because of how we see the Terminator. Yes, it's a dark character from the future but the whole body is silver. So, considering that, Andrew I believe went into detail of giving it the right level of shading to give over that fear and evil character that we see in the Terminator.

STAR WARS Collide

I am a huge Star Wars fan, and Andrwe Cota did something different. Yes, he got the traditional characters of Darth Vader, Yoda, Princess Leila, Ewok, Stormstroopers, C3PO nad R2D2. But, we also see the more unknown characters in the films that unless we really look into detail of the Star Wars universe you wouldn't know who they were. Considering, Star Wars as we all know is in space and that's dark, Andrew Cota, used the black background and then clear sketches to truly make an incredibe collide of Star Wars characters in one space.

Storm Troopers Meets Aliens and Predators

This is awesome! Star Wars meets Aliens meets Predators! It's one of those things, you think it couldn't happen. Then, a moment later it could actually be an awesome film! The Storm trooper is nicely detailed with that bit of shading to give the position of them. The Alien is FANTASTIC! You know straight away what it is, the tongue is quite nice, not too long or short, Andrew Cota understood what is an Alien than making it look ridiculous, looking quite fearsome. Then, having the helmet of a Predator over powering the Storm Trooper and Alien is astonishing, very creative, thought out side the box and truly is something to look at. I would happily have this on my wall.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

It's simple and to the point, and I think Andrew Cota even thou he doesn't address himself as an artist, I will happily call him a creative designer and maker because he truly understands his boundaries and he pushes them. The teenage mutant ninja turtles is fabulous. We see all our little teenage mutant ninja turtles. My only advice, I would like to see Splinter, or have a huge poster of different characters as one. Combinding different genres like Star Wars, Aliens and Predator. Maybe, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Power Rangers and Big Bad Beetleborgs. And, if you ask why Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Power Rangers they actually did a cross over....Don't believe me look it up! Anywho! Andrew Cota considering he does this as a hobby, with some patience, some kick up the butt I think he could sell them as simple sketches but quite detailed.

WWII Bomb

Now, first look you're thinking what on Earth is this?!?! Well, it's a WWII Bomb as we know that's one of the passions that Andrew Cota has. But, this is made from just a spray paint can.....this is why I called Andrew Cota a designer and maker, because he has that eye of making ordinary items into pieces of art. But, clearly we will see something of Andrew Cota because I haven't seen many artist use this technique....I haven't seen a WWII bomb used from a spray paint can and I think some artist need to break that one dimension box and break into being more creative.

So, What's The Bottom Line?

Andrew Cota is one of those artist that makes you feel comfortable. But, I do believe he has some tough decisions ahead, yes he does it for himself. However, my bottom line would be that giving the time, what he can accomplish and his ideas of art and hobbies he can merge them and feel so passionately about his work, he could potentially sell them. However, that's the thing I love about Andrew Cota.....his artwork his for himself and no one else....think about that. This is a true artist/creator that doesn't believe in doing something for money, but for himself....and that's why you should follow him on Instagram (http://instagram.com/ajcota/) and that's why we should truly give Andrew Cota the acknowledgement that he deserves.

What's The Bottom Line special Warmth Wednesdays presents The Shawshank Redemption

presents

The Shawshank Redemption (1994)

Starring Tim Robbins (War of the Worlds (2005) and Mystic River (2003)), Morgan Freeman (Se7en (1995) and Million Dollar Baby (2004)) and Bob Gunton (Argo (2012) and Ace Venture: When Nature Calls (1995))

First Impressions Before Seeing The Film?

I don't know why, but I was quite put off by the film. It took me till around 2003 to watch the film. It was on a film channel I think Film Four. But, I never heard of it and considering I was a child back then and to be honest it's not suitable for a child. Teenagers yes, but not for children under 10, I personally think they will get bored by the film. But, I didn't know any of the actors at all it was only later on, I got addicted to Morgan Freeman and Tim Robins. That's why, I picked Million Dollar Baby, because I watched this at Christmas time and then I watched Million Dollar Baby the year later. But, I can't really give an impression, I know it's a novel written by Stephen King, but back then, I didn't do any research into films. I whack it on, sit on the couch and watch the film that's it. So, lets go into what I think of the film.

After I Watched The Film?

I usually say this at the end of the blog, but on IMDB this has a 9.3 rating, it's been rated the number 1. best film to watch of all time. But, why? Well, personally I think it's because it's so pure, the drama is nicely balanced, comedy elements make us laugh, smile, and then the serious moments makes us sad and cry. But, we can feel a mixture of crying and smiling at the end. It's about a man called Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins) and comes friends with a man called Red (Morgan Freeman). But, it's much more than that, we have Bob Gunton who I've seen in many films, and this is my all time favourite. He plays this character, that believes in the almighty lord, but is corrupt...like everyone else. I think that's one of the things, that makes us so interested in this film. Bob Gunton character The Warden is corrupt, therefore the jail is corrupt. And, as we watch the film, yes some or all of the prisoners are there for murder....They, are actually the innocent in the prison as we see most of the officers and wardens completely corrupt with money, violence and power. We can see that in this film, and the fact that you can't protect yourself in Shawshank prison it's interesting to see the situations you could encounter. But, another scene that I personally think gets everyone to tears......When James Whitmore playing Brooks Hatlen finally gets released from prison. I think....that one scene I won't say what, I already spoiled that one of the inmates gets let go. But, that one moment of finally being freed and the fact he's an old man, the prison is his home and the free world is his prison. It's quite powerful and uncomfortable situation that we actually see in Brooks because it could happen. I do have to say that Tim Robbins is remarkable in this film, am really saddened that he isn't in many films in today's films. Last film I saw him in was The Green Lantern, but Morgan Freeman! He is still going strong, he's been in Bruce Almighty, Lucy, Transcendence and going onto future films like Now You See Me 2. I personally think, Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins this will be the best performances we will ever see. And, even Morgan Freeman says this is his favourite works of all time. But, why? In the shortest way to explain it, it shows the humanity in us all and what we could or will become if we go into prison.....And, seeing how we adapt, survival of the fittest and above all finding allies. That's what I think we enjoy this film, because of that human element that we could all relate too.

Should Hollywood Remake Shawshank Redemption?

Now, when it comes to remakes I even get really annoyed or really excited. For example, Nightmare on Elm Street was remade and for me, it was for the worse because of the lack of fear and comedy element that Freddy Krueger had. Planet of the Apes however, I prefer the Dawn and the Rise of the Planet of the Apes from Tim Burtons Planet of the Apes. If Hollywood was thinking what to remake, because we are getting fed up of them not having an original idea. If they remade Shawshank Redemption it would be an awful move. And, here's why! I just can't understand, why any director, actor or even make up artist would like to do a remake of the film. We have seen the best of the best, Shawshank Redemption (1994) is the top of it's game, you can't remake it to be better! It's impossible! You'll ruin it for everyone, for Stephen King, for the actors in 1994, but more importantly you would ruin the lovers of Shawshank Redemption because everyone has this idea of what is Shawshank Redemption. My only idea, if they were going to do a remake.....Do Red's story before he meets Andy Dufresne, so we know more of his story and his wife/daughter. OR, even do the prison when Red and Andy leave the prison, how has the prison changed? Do the inmates go and try and find Red and Andy? That is the only way possible, if they were going ot do some form of remake that's the only way they could do it.

Facts About This Film

  1. Andy and Red's opening chat in the prison yard - in which Red is pitching a baseball - took 9 hours to shoot. Morgan Freeman pitched that baseball for the entire 9 hours without a word of complaint. Next day, he turned up for work in an arm sling.
  2. Stephen King sold the film rights for his novella, Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption, for $5,000. He never cashed the check. Years after Shawshank came out, the author got the check framed and mailed it back to the director Frank Darabont with a note inscribed: "In case you ever need bail money. Love, Steve."
  3. Clint Eastwood, Harrison Ford, Paul Newman and Robert Redford were all considered for the part of Red. In the original novella, Red is a middle-aged Irishman with graying red hair. However, Frank Darabont always had Morgan Freeman in mind for the role because of his authoritative presence, demeanour and deep voice. Let's be honest....we can't picture any of these really pulling off what Morgan Freeman pulled off.
  4. Tom Hanks, Kevin Costner, Tom Cruise, Nicolas Cage, Johnny Depp and Charlie Sheen were all considered for the part of Andy Dufresne. Hanks turned it down because he was committed to Forrest Gump (1994). Costner liked the script a lot but was then embroiled in the filming of Waterworld (1995).But, Kevin Costner agrees that turning down the role of Andy Dufresne later on regrets not taking on the role.

My Rankings

You know the ratings from before on the IMDB page, but who can argue with it? It's incredible and breath taking and I will be giving this a nice round, solid, two digit rating of 10 out of 10. It's a flawless film with a flawless performance. It's inspiring to follow who you really are even in the unlikely of circumstances and I would recommend this film to anyone!

So, What's The Bottom Line?

In the words of Andy Dufrense " Get busy living, or get busy dying." And, that's if you haven't seen one of the most remarkable, incredible and utterly beautiful works of film every made, and that's the bottom line. If you haven't watch this yet.....watch it! You won't be disappointed.

What's The Bottom Line special Toxic Tuesday presents Top 10 Favourite Horror Video Games

presents

Top 10 Favourite Horror Video Games

Introduction

Welcome to my top 10 Favourite Horror Video Games, these are the games I have played, but that's not all! I write down what my ideal horror game would be, and I think most people would agree with that and even a better question why do we love horror video games? Is it the thrill of being in a horror environment or chopping the heads of zombies? Speaking of Zombies we start off with quite a new zombie game called The Evil Within.

1) The Evil Within (2014)

I am playing this game at the moment and I love it. The Evil Within is just an incredible video game, it is in episodes but you feel you need it in episodes. You will die at some point because it's such an intense, fast thinking game that keeps you on your toes. The storyline is quite detailed, the detail on the zombies is quite nice and it's not just zombies you see either. There's these creatures that will give anybody a scare. Even thou am on an easy setting, I feel every bullet counts! I have at this moment, a pistol, two kinds of shotgun and a crossbow. I have defeated my fair few zombies but there's riddles, mysteries, and lots of bosses to get through. I love the fact you don't just have to shoot your way through, you can run, which is more realistic. It's quite a realistic game, like if you shoot a zombie in the face it doesn't explode right away takes a few more shots doesn't it? Especially, if it's a pistol. You can upgrade your weapons which I like and even your own abilities....How? Well, that would be a spoiler but it's worth buying, I do feel you can't always play it because it is so intense! And, it's a great game! I would highly recommend anyone buying this game.

2) Saw (2009)

I love the film and the series of films that Saw has become. But, the game was nearly at the level of who is Saw and who is Jigsaw. It was an interesting game, and I did enjoy it but there was room for improvements. As you would guess with Saw,this game is mainly a survivor game and you have to fight other people that are in the game to save themselves. The game play is quite straight forward, you get to do puzzles, fight baddies and discover Jigsaws secrets. But, I think you would only get this game if you're a massive fan of Saw. It's not a long game that yo expect if you're a survivor but it's interesting if you like film to video game concept.

3) Resident Evil 5 (2009)

More of the well known horror games, Resident Evil is truly a fantastic horror game for all horror fans. From films to video games, video games to films Resident Evil is the top for Zombie games because of the storyline, the zombies, the bosses, and the unique weapons you come across. I picked Resident Evil 5, because it's one of my favourite games in the Resident Evil series. I do feel, that the detail is slightly better, the environment is bigger and the characters have back stories. I do feel, that they do need to make Resident Evil some how more free roam. You discover stuff on you're own. You make the story, and if you're going the wrong way, make there be a billion zombies blocking you! You know? But, resident evil 5 there was something in this game that I liked , and I think it was the weapons mostly and the finding of ammo, weapons was nice. It's a simple Zombie game, it doesn't keep you really on you're toes like The Evil Within but it's worth playing.

4) Deadrising (2006)

I have to say that, I mainly picked this because it's different from other zombie video games. It's free roam, you have to get survivors but your whole environment is a weapon. You're in a mall, you can kill zombies with baseball bats, tennis rackets, knives and they don't go. Which is where I think they went wrong with Deadrising 2 and Deadrising 3, you can combine weapons which is cool, but after a while they can break. That's why I picked the first one, because you can keep using it over and over again. But, it's quite a big map, you have to survive and that's what I like, have to survive for so many days. And, the fact that you have to find survivors and survive to get there is more exciting. And, the boss zombies are quite unique in themselves as well because there slightly bigger and have something about them, like two chainsaws in there hands. I do like it as well, because you can customize your character and just have fun with this game, there's no tension it's just pure fun.

5) The House of the Dead (2003)

Got this on video game and it's fantastic in arcades, The House of the Dead for me, has the best zombie detail in existence and the story is interesting if you ever get to the end. The bosses are as big as the screen, simple weapons, and you kill as much as you can. It's fun, exciting and a fantastic game for zombie lovers. Plus, the game I have there's two different stories and I enjoy both but I have to say I enjoy the first story more because of the bosses. I can't really say more about the game because it's simple little package and simple controls and you can get it for your old consoles and I did hear that they are doing this game for the newer consoles as well because of how popular they are.

6) Left 4 Dead 2 (2009)

I do like the fact that's it's in episodes so you don't have to rush anything, but my favourite level is in the Dark Canival. It's fun killing clowns and mimes, it just makes the game more fun. The controls is really easy, the weapons are fun and you can upgrade and buy once you finish the level I think. Plus, like the fact all the zombies are different in size and gender as well, like the game creators actually thought there not all slow moving male zombies, they changed the way we see zombie in a different way. I do enjoy generally roaming when you have the chance, and look for Witchers as well but I don't like the fact you can't customize your character so it's doesn't feel as much as you're in the game.

7) BioShock (2007)

The game itself is unique, there is nothing that can compare to this game. I do like the suspense in the game, the story line is incredibly interesting and the environment itself is visually stunning for a game players imagination. I haven't played it in ages thou, so I may get something wrong. I love the Little Sister character because at first she doesn't look like much and then suddenly she scares you alot! Like, so much you just want to blast it to another country....no let's make it planet. The weapons are stunning that suits the environment you're in. But, you have to save the Little Sisters but I won't say why, but the ending is incredible. I have to say thou, the bosses are hard and I like that it gives you a challenge and not an easy kill. I would recommend this game to anyone because it stands out on it's own and the game itself you cannot like it, unless you don't like horror games.

8) Manhunt (2003)

Manhunt is a stealth-based psychological horror video game developed by Rockstar North and published by Rockstar Games. The game's story follows a supposedly executed death row inmate who is forced to participate in a series of snuff films for former film producer and now underground snuff director, Lionel Starkweather (voiced by Brian Cox). It has some intensive scenes but it's exciting because it's more stealth mode than guns shooting everywhere and the detail to the blood, violence and gore is pretty good considering how old the game is.

9) Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare (2010)

I love Red Dead Redemption in general, it's a free roam game set in the Wild Wild West, you're weapons suit the environment, you see bosses, gangs, Indians and Zombies?!?! That's right this game is another Zombie game but what I like about this, you can get a better zombie horse! You can hog-tie you're zombies down and more importantly you can shoot there heads off all day long, or punch them in the face. It's a fun game with a quirky storyline and it's not the detail of the zombies that make the game, it's how ridiculous it is in the Wild West. If you're a fan of the Red Dead Redemption game you'll just fall in love with this game. Am still playing it from time to time, and the missions are just as ridiculous and sometimes serious depends which you do. But, it is generally an exciting game.

10) Silent Hill (1999)

Silent Hill is a survival horror video game for the PlayStation, the game follows Harry Mason as he searches for his missing adopted daughter in the eponymous fictional American town of Silent Hill; stumbling upon a cult conducting a ritual to revive a deity it worships, he discovers her true origin. Five game endings are possible, depending on actions taken by the player, including one joke ending. I think that's what I like about the game, the endings change depending of what you do within the game which is nice because you could play this game 5 times and get 5 completely different results. But, I love the detail considering it's 1999 but they were published by Konami which is quite a great game company back in the day.

Why Do We Enjoy Horror Video Games?

I think it's the fact that we love watching horror films and to actually be in a horror environment makes us think what we say at the pictures. "Oh, I wouldn't do that, I escape through the window" or "I'll shoot him in the head to save my bullets". Just simple stuff, so when we have a horror video game we can play out what we would do and not what the writers put in stone what will happen. And, I think it's the fact we love the suspense, the thrill, the blood and the guts. And, most of the games I mentioned we have a choice of how the game plans out. Plus, I think it's because we like to be in the situations like Saw and The Evil Within that believability and realism that we want to capture and be physically in the game, and not just playing a character. Yes, we haven't customized the character to look like us, but it's our duties as games to survive. Which is what I think we like the games like these, survival of the fittest is in our code as humans. So, seeing it in a horror game to survive it's a challenge.

What Would Be My Ideal Horror Game?

I would love a game, that's completely free roam, you start off in a basement of the house, and you're in a popular town like New York. You see survivors, you see bosses of zombies, but not just zombies creators, aliens, vampires. And, the day times and night time reflects of what enemies you'll get. The weapons are pretty straight forward, it's what you can get. Nothing, technical, nothing advance....straight to the point and simple. So, you walk pass a cop car, in the trunk a shotgun, you're in a house, a chef's knife. Adding the element of Deadrising, where you are in the environment is you're weapon. Then, before you start the game, you can create the character and start where you want with 5 options.....Hospital (your character is a nurse or doctor if your under 18 a patient), Police Station (your character is a cop or picked a child setting you're in jail for shop lifting), House (your character either businessman/lawyer or picked a child your teenager son/daughter), School (your a teacher or student depending what age you picked) and a shopping centre (manager or picked the child/teenage setting a clerk). So, quite simple right? WRONG! You all start with a watch and it's going to be a realistic watch so it feels like that's the time. So, you know when day time and night time is, you have safe houses which you discover. You're re-spawn is you're first warehouse. The weapons you can swap and trade with other survivors or if they need a certain item you can get it, give it them for something in return. Bosses? Nuclear disasters the size of Godzilla either run/hide until you hijack a tank at the military. And, I would like it you can change you're character and having rankings in the community. So, you start of as a simple solider and finish off as the leader, you can abandon to go solo as a lone wolf or bounty hunter. This is just my ideal horror game, become whoever you want and earn cash to survive, make a house so zombies or creators can't get in. Could be a great game.

So, What's The Bottom Line?

I think horror games are becoming more popular because we all love a challenge at survival and test our intelligence. Bottom Line? Ahhhh! Zombies! cut off the head or remove the brain....and that's the bottom line.
